MATCH PREVIEW: CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS VS ABERYSTWYTH TOWN

After last weeks outstanding performance in the Nathaniel MG Cup Final, Aberystwyth Town have another tough assignment on their hands this weekend as the Black & Greens head north to take on Connahs Quay Nomads.

The efforts of the players last Friday did not go unnoticed, and they received a standing ovation from the incredible Green Army support at the end of the match; receiving the recognition that they deserved for pushing a team that has won matches in Europe this season all the way.

Antonio Corbisiero was rightly proud of his players after the final last week, telling Sgorio “I thought my players were superb tonight. I’m immensely proud of them. They’ve put in a huge effort and now we’ve got to concentrate back to Connahs Quay next Friday”.

A win in Flintshire will take ATFC within 5 points of safety, with 5 games remaining after this one, and could prove to be the catalyst for a late surge for survival. It may seem unlikely at this stage, but it wouldn’t be the first time that Aberystwyth Town have upset the odds!

Friday's opponents, Connah's Quay, have won 2 and lost 2 from their four Play-Off Conference matches so far. They come into this game on the back of a 2-0 victory at Barry Town United on 22nd February and sit in 8th place in the league with 32 points from 26 matches – 5 points behind Barry, who hold the all important 7th place.

In Rhys Hughes, they have the league’s current top goalscorer. Hughes has hit 12 goals so far this campaign, one more than Aramide Oteh of TNS and Louis Lloyd of Caernarfon. Jack Kenny has also contributed 6 goals to the Nomads’ cause, whilst Noah Edwards has netted 4 times.

This will be the 4th meeting between the two teams so far this season, with the spoils shared so far. Connahs Quay won the previous meeting at Cae Y Castell 3-0 in October, with a 1-1 draw having previously played out at Aberystwyth University Park Avenue in August. Aber were victorious in the Nathaniel MG Cup Quarter Final at Cae Y Castell however, coming from behind to win 2-1 thanks to a Harry Arnison second half strike.

As was the case last season, Connah's Quay groundshare at Flint Town United’s Cae Y Castell, which can be found by following postcode CH6 5PJ. Flint’s website offers the following travel advice: The stadium sits on the banks of the Dee Estuary, a short walk away from Flint Castle. You’ll find a car park near the RNLI Lifeboat Station. Once that fills up, we ask you to be respectful about where you park. Try to consider those living locally and avoid blocking any driveways, streets or access roads. If you can, come on foot or on the train. It’ll make your journey home easier and give you some eco-credentials too.

Green Army … bring your brilliant support from Latham Park to Cae Y Castell and let's give it everything for the rest of the season!
