MATCH PREVIEW: ABERYSTWYTH TOWN VS NEWTOWN AFC

The Black and Greens host The Robins this Saturday lunchtime in front of the Sgorio cameras for an all-important Mid Wales Derby.

The sides have met twice this season and boast a win apiece. The 2024/25 JD Cymru Premier campaign kicked off at Latham Park as The Seasiders were well beaten on the day by a scoreline of 4-1 – despite Jonathan Evans giving Town the lead on the stroke of half time. Goals by Oswell x2, Lock and Roberts sealed the win for the home side in August.

Fast forward to November, and it was Town who came out on top thanks to an early goal by Niall Flint before Rico Patterson curled a stunning free kick to the top corner to send the Dias Stand into raptures! Josh Lock got one back mid-way through the second half, but Jonathan Evans sealed things on 83 minutes to secure the Black and Green victory.

The visiting Robins come into Saturday’s game locked in a very poor run of form, having won just once of their last 18 league games – however, have picked up two draws thus far in Phase 2 against Briton Ferry Llansawel and Barry Town.

The aforementioned Josh Lock will not be continuing his fine scoring form against the Black and Greens however, following his return to parent club TNS and subsequent loan to Caernarfon Town last month. The Robins’ experienced trio of Jason Oswell, Aaron Williams, and Zeli Ismael are sure to be ones to keep an eye on as ever.

Town still find themselves at the foot of the table, but just four points separate the teams heading into the match where each game is but another opportunity to turn the tide in the Black and Greens’ favour… see you there!
