Aberystwyth Town FC v Briton Ferry Llansawel

0 - 1

The Black and Greens’ relegation from the Cymru Premier, ending a 33 year residency, was confirmed against the Reds

Aberystwyth Town FC v Briton Ferry Llansawel

Aber created a number of great opportunities, but were unable to convert them, and then Caleb Demery’s 83rd minute winner for Ferry turned the knife and confirmed the worst.

The Seasiders’ amazing supporters turned out in force again, with 351 present on a rainy evening, but it was the visitors who settled better, controlling the ball. The dangerous Corey Hurford sent a shot wide from the left wing, then Dave Jones did well to save Nelson Sanca’s header at the second attempt, but as the game progressed the hosts got into the game, and Rico Patterson sent in a low drive which keeper Will Fuller did well to touch round the post. Another great move saw Abdi Sharif play Johnny Evans through into a one on one with Fuller, but the keeper once again came out on top. Tyler Brock skewed wide for Ferry, Town defended well to block Tyler Brock’s effort, then right at the death Liam Walsh sent an effort over the bar from Niall Flint’s corner, and the half ended goalless.

Into the second half and Evans stabbed inches wide after Louis Bradford had knocked on Jack Thorn’s throw, Flint sent a great ball in in which evaded everyone, then Sharif sent in a pearler of a cross from the right, and Evans scored with a diving header, only for this most crucial of goals to be chalked off for offside – agonising. Hurford was getting more involved down Ferry’s left, and he saw attempts deflected wide, curl past the post and saved by Jones. Evans burst through down the right flank, but again was denied by the impeccable Fuller, and then with seven minutes to go Ferry worked the ball back to sub Demery down the right, and his low effort found the bottom corner to gasps of despair. Evans burst through and was denied by Fuller yet again, and after six minutes of injury time the final whistle came, and the Black and Greens were down.

On the evening Aber played their full part in the game and home fans would point to a number of good chances which should have been enough to claim at least a point, but things have not gone the Seasiders’ way this season, and yet another narrow defeat was the sad outcome. Town now have three matches remaining, starting with a home game against Flint Town United next Friday (ko 8pm). We’ll be back!
